On New Year's Day, authorities in Troy successfully apprehended two individuals following a traffic stop involving a vehicle reported stolen from Utica. The incident unfolded at noon when police officers observed the suspicious car in South Troy. After stopping the vehicle on Linden Avenue near Pawling Avenue, they discovered illegal items and outstanding warrants leading to the arrest of both occupants. Charges were filed against each individual for various offenses including possession of stolen property and controlled substances.
In a routine patrol, law enforcement identified a vehicle matching the description of one reported stolen from another city. Upon stopping the car, officers quickly realized that the situation warranted further investigation. Both occupants were taken into custody without any resistance or additional incidents. The driver faced multiple charges, while the passenger had several active bench warrants.
The driver, a 32-year-old resident of Troy, was found to be in possession of an unregistered firearm and illegal drugs. These items were discovered during the search conducted after the traffic stop. Authorities noted that the weapon was loaded, adding severity to the charges. Additionally, the driver was accused of possessing the stolen vehicle and intending to sell narcotics. Meanwhile, the passenger, a 40-year-old local woman, was arrested due to her pre-existing legal issues, which included five active bench warrants for her appearance in court.
Following the arrests, both individuals appeared before Troy City Court where formal charges were presented. Each faced different counts based on the evidence collected during the operation. The nature of these charges reflected the seriousness of their actions and the potential risks posed to public safety.
The driver was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon (loaded firearm), criminal possession of stolen property (vehicle and firearm), and criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, as well as possession of a narcotic drug. For the passenger, the charges centered around criminal possession of stolen property related to the vehicle and fulfilling the requirements of her outstanding bench warrants. Both cases highlight the ongoing efforts by local law enforcement to address theft and illegal activities within the community.
