In a significant organizational shift, Lyn Plantinga, the General Manager of WTVF-5, Nashville's CBS affiliate, has expanded her responsibilities to include a corporate-level position within The E.W. Scripps Company. Effective immediately, Plantinga will serve as the Senior Vice President (SVP) of Local Media at Scripps, working closely with Executive Vice President (EVP) of Media Broadcast Operations, Dean Littleton. This move marks a pivotal moment in Plantinga's career, highlighting her extensive experience and dedication to broadcast excellence.
During the early days of 2025, The E.W. Scripps Company introduced a new chapter in its leadership structure by appointing Lyn Plantinga to the role of SVP of Local Media. In this capacity, Plantinga will oversee local media operations across the company's regional stations. Her responsibilities will involve guiding the teams responsible for delivering high-quality journalism and maintaining operational excellence. Since August 2023, Plantinga has been instrumental in managing Scripps' television stations in Lexington, Kentucky; Cleveland; Buffalo; and Cincinnati, in addition to her duties in Nashville.
Plantinga's journey in broadcasting began over three decades ago as an intern at WTVF. Over the years, she has held various leadership positions, including Assistant News Director, National Sales Manager, and Station Manager. In 2015, she was promoted to Vice President and General Manager of WTVF-5. Her contributions have been recognized through numerous board memberships and leadership roles, such as serving on the boards of the Scripps Howard Fund and the General Hospital Foundation. Additionally, she has been involved with organizations like the Tennessee Association of Broadcasters and the CBS Affiliates Board.
Dean Littleton, who assumed his current position in December 2024, praised Plantinga's commitment to operational excellence, financial performance, and quality journalism. He emphasized that her new role would enhance collaboration between Scripps' local stations, employees, and the communities they serve.
From a journalist's perspective, Lyn Plantinga's promotion signifies the value placed on seasoned professionals who bring both experience and vision to their roles. Her ascent from an intern to a senior executive underscores the importance of mentorship and continuous learning in the broadcast industry. Moreover, it highlights the significance of fostering strong community ties and delivering reliable, unbiased journalism. As Plantinga takes on this new challenge, it is clear that her leadership will play a crucial role in shaping the future of local media operations at Scripps, ensuring that these stations continue to thrive and serve their audiences effectively.
